ACSS - Lynx Cuff by Antleraptor ACSS - Lynx Cuff by Antleraptor
My partner for the Artisan Crafts Secret Santa (ACSS) run by Aryiea was Adavlys-Jewelry

She had pretty much the perfect selection for me- likes tribal things, lynxes, silvers and earth colours, etc. Unfortunately, she is in France, so I could not use the lynx tail I had lying around for craft use. Can't ship dead things overseas.

I did the next best thing and tried to make an etched cuff that seemed kind of tribal. I used nickel, as her top colour was grey/silver. I noticed that the majority of tribal things have a sort of simplicity to them, so I decided on a lynx portrait, and then designed two paw prints to go on either side. The cuff is about 2" high, and was made with nickel that was thick enough to be sturdy, but also thin enough to be adjustable to fit smaller wrists.

To prevent oxidization, the cuff was finished with a "sandpaper satin" look. It was then sprayed with a semi-gloss finish, both to protect the metal, as well as the skin of the wearer (prolonged wearing of base metals can cause slight skin discolouration. The gloss finish prevents this.) The corners were cut into a rounded shape, both to make it look less blocky, as well as for the comfort of the wearer.

The background is a domestic goat hide.

**The cuff is more of a neutral silver in real life. The light of the lounge I photographed it in was very warm.

This caught my eye in my inbox this morning and I'm glad I took a closer look. This is a really impressive piece and I love the attention to detail you have! You capture the lynx perfectly on this cuff, with just the right amount of detail to get the idea across without losing anything. I love the pawprints on either side, too. They're such a perfect touch and the tribal-style of the prints keeps them from being dull. This is a very beautiful piece, lovely work!

I could. But the animal wouldn't be as detailed. :P

The rings can probably be made to be about an inch tall, as that's about the distance from the knuckle to the first finger joint on most adults.

Could you do other animals? Also, how long do you think it would take for them to tarnish?

Yeah, I should be able to. Like I said, not as much detail would be possible, but I can certainly play around with it and try. :)

Well, I always spray with either a matte, semi-gloss, or gloss finish. This protects them for a pretty long time. Since rings are worn in a more "airtight" fashion, they tend to tarnish more quickly. However, at Walmart in the cleaning aisle, there is generally a substance called Wright's Copper Cream. It costs like $3-$4 and lasts a long time. It cleans copper, nickel, brass, and silver like new.

Awesome :D Because my fingers turn green D; Haha, so how much do you think it will be for a fox one?

I'm not quite sure. I'm actually not at school right now- I don't go back for at least another week. I'll have to see when I get there (I don't have metal here to figure out how to do this, exactly.).
